And, my final entry on inspiration from the Houston flower show will be on mountings.

The top picture has several long stalked flowers, orchids in this picture but similar mountings were done with other flowers attached to a 1″ piece of bamboo. A long thin leaf was then wrapped around the flowers to separate them and cover the mounting hardware what ever that might be in your case. It is a very dramatic effect.

The second photo shows what is probably bamboo, could be any pole 4″-6″ across with orchids mounted in and on the pole. The outside of the pole is covered with a paper-like substance. I think bark would work well too.
